10. Autofocus

The Canon EF 28 mm f/2.8 IS USM is equipped with an ultrasonic autofocus motor with FTM (Full Time Manual) option. The work of the mechanism is indeed very quiet (still it cannot be called noiseless as you can hear the noticeable whirr) and fast. Running through the whole distance scale takes just about 0.5 of a second which is a very good result.

The autofocus didn’t have any accuracy problems. The number of misses in studio conditions didn’t exceed the level of 3% which is once again a very good result.

When it comes to front or back focus tendency, working with the EOS 50D the lens always hit where it should. In the case of 1 Ds MkIII it set the focus slightly before the photographed object but that effect was so insignificant that almost negligible.
