Cons: Barrel rotates during AF which makes using rotating filters awkward. It also requires you to turn lens to MF to change filters. Vari-focus means means you can't zoom in for AF then zoom out: you will change the point of focus. Some CA at some settings and aperture settings. Mix of barrel and pincushion distortion.

Pros: Small, light, and really sharp. A good deal when new, a bargain now.

Summary: From the cons you'd think I don't like the lens: far from the truth! I like it much better than the EF 28-135 3.5-5.6 IS USM I bought to replace it, fueling my distrust of "upgrading" to new lenses. This is my main walk-around zoom lens. While a lens starting at 24mm or 28mm would suit me better, this lens is wonderful.
