The performance against bright light of the tested Canon doesn’t bowl us over. What’s interesting, at 70 mm there are no distinct problems; they appear only at the longer end of the focal spectrum. If you position the source of light a bit outside the frame you can catch a bright, white flare which might destroy your image completely.
It is not a performance worth our praise but, on the other hand, the more expensive L-series instrument didn’t impress us either – it’s true its images didn’t feature such huge flares but you could catch a whole series of small, green ones which made it equally difficult to take a good photo.
The predecessor fared weakly in this category as well; lenses constructed by independent producers are, on the other hand, an example to follow for all 70-300 Canon instruments, described here.
