10. Autofocus

When joined with the A7R II camera the autofocus of the Sigma 2.8/105 Macro is noiseless but, unfortunately, rather slow. Running through the whole distance range and confirming the focus takes about 1.3-1.5 of a second. Of course you must take into account the fact that you deal here with a very wide distance range – after all it is a fully fledged macro lens. You can try and save some time by employing the focus limiter e.g. the option from 0.5 of a meter to infinity. Unfortunately even that action doesn't guarantee you a decent speed as the focusing still takes about one second. In favourable lighting conditions you can reduce ti to 0.8 of a second, that's all.

The Sigma doesn't have any problems with accuracy of the autofocus for a change. Both in studio and outdoor the number of misses reached 1-1.5% at most. The majority of photos were sharp exactly where the photographer wanted it to be.

The lens didn't have any problems with front of back focus tendencies either and the crop, shown below, proves it rather well.
