Tamron 17-50 mm f/4 Di III VXD

9. Ghosting and flares

When it comes to the performance against bright light the tested Tamron certainly had it difficult. First, its optical construction consists of as many as 13 group of elements and it means 26 air-to-glass surfaces where you can catch unwanted reflections. Second, its range of angles of view is really wide, including fields wider than 100 degrees. Third, it is a zoom lens, with an internal automatic focusing system, with many elements changing their positions relative to each other. It certainly makes the right positioning of apertures and ribbing trickier, not to mention problems with perfect blackening of the interior.

That's why we are very nicely surprised that the Tamron performed in this category really well. In most of cases you won't deal here with either noticeable light artifacts or a distinct contrast loss. There is one significant exception, though. When you put the sun right outside a frame corner a significant area of your photo might get brighter. Still, it happens just for one very precise setting; it's enough you change the frame just slightly and the problem disappears.

Overall in this category the tested Tamron should be praised.
