Fujifilm Fujinon XF 16-50 mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR
5. Chromatic and spherical aberration
Chromatic aberration
An increased number of elements made of low dispersion ED glass, amounting to three pieces, is one of more serious differences between the new Fujifilm lens and its predecessor. It provided a very distinct and positive results when it comes to the correction of both kinds of chromatic aberration. As you can notice in photos below the longitudinal chromatic aberration is reined in quite well. Even at the maximum relative aperture and in the out-of-focus areas positioned further away it is very difficult to see any distinct trace of colouring.

Everything looks splendid here. In case of 16 and 33 mm focal lengths you see results that can easily be called negligible; at the 50 mm focal length the aberration increases slowly with stopping down the aperture, showing at the beginning very low values. Then it starts approaching the borderline between very low and low values. The Fujinon certainly deserves to be praised here.

Spherical aberration
First photos of this chapter don't feature any 'focus shift' effects. What's more, the appearance of out-of-focus circles of light we got before and behind the focal point also doesn't provide any more serious reasons to worry. You can notice some differences when it comes to the intensity of the rim of the circle but the effect is not especially pronounced. Overall you can state that the Fujinon 16-50 mm doesn't have any noticeable problems with the correction of spherical aberration.
