Cons: Cheap construction, not really a surprise for such a low-cost lens. Zoom ring is not very smooth. Autofocus misses are higher than you'd like. The front element extends and rotates as you focus. About sharpness... Don't expect miracles from it. At maximum focal lenght, even stopped to f/8 - f/11, it won't be very sharp. Also at maximum focal lenght and max. aperture (250mm f/5.6) there is some slightly annoying vignetting. Image stabilization is a bit noisy.
Pros: The zoom range is great. You'll reach 400mm (35mm equiv.) in a very small and lightweight lens. Although the image stabilization is noisy, it is very efficient, surprising for the price of the lens. In the middle of the focal range and stopped down it can actually get very sharp in the middle of the image.
Summary: For amateur use it's not a disaster at all, is very useful yet. However, currently, the STM version is much better, and shoud be your first choice.

Cons: Not suitable for low light conditions. No lens hood provided.Come on Canon, time you started providing the lens hood along with the lens
Pros: IS is good, worth the money. Overall performance is good
Summary: A good lens to own, since Canon is providing it as a part of the package when buying a 600D. Completes the kit.

Cons: Sarpness / price Decent Macro Performance (but noa a true macro lens) Fast autofocus (comparing to kit lens)
Pros: Build quality is PLASTIC Rotating focus ring and filter Slow autofocus in comparison with faster L lenses
Summary: A very good "firslt" telephoto, it's got decent quality and focus speed for its price. Nevertheless, those Pros, familiar with the blazing fast autofocus in the 70-200mm L and their stunning quality, may found this a bad lens
