Cons: - Noisy USM - construction a little bit "light" for a Canon - To weak to be used at 300F5.6, better choice to crop at 200F5.6 if necessary. - Optional sunshield
Pros: - Stabilization efficient (far better than on the 100-400L) - Excellent sharpness between 70 - 135mm - Very Good Sharpness from 135 - 200mm At 300mm: very sharpness obtained at 300F9mm after AF microadjustements (-5 for me).
Summary: Good overhall quality and a good alternative to 70-200F4L with it's larger range and a very efficient stabilization.

Cons: Not the best in corner sharpness. A bit noisy,
Pros: Sharpness is good overall IS work well, about 3 f-stop (speed) small and cheaper filter Light weight for range
Summary: Very good value compare to Canon L-lens. Weight half as much as L-lens

Cons: Plastics, light construction 200-300 = soft results until f9, need either good light or sharp photos on the PC later.
Pros: unexpected quality for this price. From 70 to 200 : excellent results it's really a hidden L light weight Not too big, easy to handle and to store in your backpack Image stabilisation efficient
Summary: Very good lens for mountainering and hiking, maybe the best choice in this range. I consider this lens as a 70/200 F4L with a "+" from 200 to 300mm.

Cons: Rotating front element Noisy IS Poor contrast in bright light Soft at 300 Expensive hood bit wobbly when extended
Pros: image sharpness very good at less than full zoom zero CA
Summary: My copy had to go back to canon as was very fuzzy at 300. came back bit better, not great though.don't like all the noises. wont be keeping it much longer

Cons: - no ring USM, AF-ring turns during focussing, front element as well - AF not really fast, ring USM better - IQ degrades significant at the longest focal length - it seems like there is an issue with production stability, pick a good one if possible
Pros: - nearly flawless between 70 and 200mm, when a good one has been selected - very effective IS - regarding IQ it ist very, very close to L grade (@70-200mm) - great value for the money when bought used
Summary: A really good choice as allround telelens, great value! The only way to get much better is 70-200 L, with IS much more expensive. Good deal when used & selected. Mine will be replaced only by the 70-200 f4 L IS.

Cons: No full time manual focus is kind of a downside since the micro USM hunts alot. Images get quite soft at 300mm.
Pros: Killer IS which is so important at long focal lengths. Quite sharp from the 70-200mm range. Very smooth zoom ring. Not too heavy. Doesn't have a cheap plastic feel to it. Solid metal mount.
Summary: A very good lens. I paid 365$ for it used but I don't think it's worth more than 500$ brand new. Good telephoto lens for any camera and I would recommend it.

Cons: Without lens hood like all Canons less than "L"
Pros: Price to Value ratio high
Summary: A fine lens in the mid-range category. Will need a bit more post processing work than the 70-200mm Ls or the 100-400mm L, tends to be a bit more "muddied". My copy sharp out to nearly the full 300mm. Very pleased with this purchase.

Cons: Its large and does not come with a lens shade. After market shades are available inexpensively (eBay) as the Canon brand is unreasonably priced and smells like a rip-off.
Pros: I find my sample to be sharp all the way to 300mm. IS is exceptionally good and keeps image sharp throughout the range. Build quality is very good, Ultrasonic focus is excellent. I cannot imagine why anyone would pay double for the DO version of this focal length.
Summary: Perfect lens to cover the medium to long range if you own a 1:6 DSLR.

Cons: It is large and extends quite far. No lens hood provided and the Canon brand is over-priced.
Pros: Sharp throughout the range, even at 300mm. Well built for the money paid. Very good IS and a huge leap from trying to get sharp pictures with a hand-held 70-300mm range zoom. Fast focus and quiet operation.
Summary: Great value for money and capable of producing excellent resultst all round.
