3. Build quality

The lens is really tiny, if we compare it, though, with other “pancakes”, produced by Pentax and Nikkor, with the similar angles of view and aperture, the Olympus is the biggest of them. The comparison can be found here. On the other hand, the manual focus ring, although small, is fully useful. The drawback is the lack of any distance scale.

The picture below shows the tested lens next to the Olympus ZD 14-42 kit lens.

The lens is well build. The barrel material makes a good impression and the bayonet is made of metal. Near to it, though, we can find the caption “Made in China”.

Inside the ZD 2.8/25 there are 5 elements in 4 groups. It’s on a par with the Pentax and one element more than in the Nikkor. The manufacturer boasts of one aspherical element and a circular 7 diaphragm blades aperture, which can be stopped down to f/22.

The buyer gets a bayonet cap and an aluminum screw- in- metal cap to shield the front element, which fits in the 43 mm filter thread.
