1. Introduction

In 2020 Viltrox launched a small attack on the market with a bunch of fixed focal length f/1.8 lenses designed for full frame mirrorless cameras. Frist we were shown the 85 mm model and then they presented the following instruments, all at the same time: the 1.8/24, the 1.8/35, and the 1.8/50. Initial launches concerned only Sony FE mount devices but after a while the producer included also the Nikon Z version, and, in the case of the lens with the longest focal length, the Canon RF mount. The following chart shows a summary of basic parameters of these lenses.

I have to admit I enjoy launches of every Nikon Z lens. There is more than enough Sony FE system optics produced by independent companies but you don't see many Nikon Z lenses, especially equipped with autofocus. That's why we were really happy with Viltrox launches and we decided to check the performance and possibilities of their standard Nikon Z lens.

We would like to thank  Fototechnika the Polish Viltrox distributor, for lending us one specimen of that lens for testing purposes.
