10. Focusing

Is an autofocus mechanism needed in a lens like this? Not really. It is worth realizing that even at maximum aperture, when we focus at 1 meter, the depth of focus will stretch from 50 centimeters to infinity! Stopping down to f/5.6 virtually eliminates the need of focusing. It is enough to set the distance scale at 0.6 meter and the dof will contain all objects within the range of 29 cm to infinity.

If we want to play manual focusing anyway, Samyang doesn’t put a spoke in our wheels. The focusing ring is large, comfortable and is operated fluently, with proper resistance. It gives us no reason to complain.
