Samyang 85 mm f/1.4 Aspherical IF

8. Vignetting

We were intrigued to know how the Samyang would manage in this category. As a reminder, the Sony 1.4/85 when tested on the A100 at maximum aperture, lost 21% light at the corners. The Samyang is only slightly worse, in its case vignetting on the D200 at f/1.4 reaches 25% (-0.8 EV) and falls to an indetectible level of 9% at f/2.0.

At full frame the situation is noticeably worse. At maximum aperture vignetting reaches 38% (-1.39 EV), which reduces to 22% at f/2.0. Only by using an aperture of f/2.8 and f/4.0 are we able to forget this aberration, with vignetting reaching an acceptable level of 13% and 8%.
