Lens review

Pentax smc FA 31 mm f/1.8 AL

10. Autofocus

The autofocus of the tested lens is unfortunately clearly audible because, like in every Limited series device, we deal here with a simple „screwdriver” mechanism. Fortunately the Pentax k-5 can urge the lens very efficiently to go faster so running through the whole scale takes just 0.5-0.6 of a second.

We don’t have any reservations concerning the accuracy of the mechanism. In studio conditions it missed in only 2% of cases so the work of the K-5 plus the tested lens set should be assessed very positively.

The lens had a slight tendency to setting focus behind the right object. It was easily corrected by using the microregulation function, available in the menu of the Pentax K-5 camera.
