10. Autofocus

The STM motor is really a joy to use. The focusing is noiseless and very fast. Running through the whole distance scale and confirming the focus position takes about 0.3-0.4 of a second, a truly outstanding result.

The accuracy of the mechanism should be assessed equally high. The number of misses we got in studio conditions kept a level of 2% which is a very good performance.

When it comes to front or back focus tendencies we didn’t experience any problems as long as the lens was attached to the EOS 50D camera. The cooperation with the EOS 5D MkIII was good in the 24-70 mm range; at 105 mm, however, we could notice a slight front focus tendency.
