Yongnuo YN 35 mm f/2.0

10. Autofocus

Like the Canon EF 35 mm f/2.0, the Yongnuo lens is devoid of the ultrasonic autofocus motor. When it is active you can hear a noticeable whirr. Still its speed is nothing you can complain about – running through the whole distance scale and setting the focus takes about 0.5-0.6 of a second.

It would be difficult to call the autofocus mechanism accurate because the number of misses in studio conditions exceeded 11%. It is not a bad result but modern lenses more often than not fare here noticeably better.

When it comes to the front or back focus tendencies while attached to the Canon 50D the lens experienced no problems. On the EOS 5D Mk III it focused slightly before the target. Still we were able to eliminate that problem by setting the AF microregulation at 4 units.
