Chromatic aberration

Photos below prove that the Sigma 14-24 mm doesn’t have any problems with the longitudinal chromatic aberration. Even at the maximum relative aperture it would be difficult to notice any traces of colouring in out-of-focus areas of images.

The correction of lateral chromatic aberration can be described in similar terms. Graphs below show the lens’s performance on the edge of the APS-C sensor and on the edge of full frame.

In the majority of cases the aberration keeps a very negligible level ranging from 0.02 to 0.04%. Even the highest value we observed, that of 0.05%, is nothing to worry about. The lens performed very well, excellent even, especially if you think about the extremely obtuse angles you deal with. Also in this category the Sigma defeated the Tamron 15-30 mm VC without any problems.

Spherical aberration

It is difficult to notice any focus shift in first photos of this chapter but the significant depth of field, offered by the tested lens, makes it rather difficult. Still the following photos prove that the Sigma doesn’t correct spherical aberration at the maximum focal length perfectly well. You can notice that both circles don’t look the same, with distinct differences between them. The one we got in front of the focus features a distinctly lighter middle and the one behind the focus has a local minimum in the very centre.
