Lens review

Sony FE 85 mm f/1.8

10. Autofocus

The autofocus of the tested lens joined with the Sony A7R II is literally noiseless – you don't even hear a slight whirr of moving elements. Still it would be difficult to call it fast: running through the whole range and confirming the focus takes about 0.8 of a second no matter from what end you start.

The accuracy of the mechanism should be assessed very highly, though – we didn't notice any problems either in the studio or shooting outside. Practically all photos were sharp exactly where we wanted and expected them to be.

The photo below also proves that the Sony FE 1.8/85 didn't have any front or back focus tendencies.
