1. Introduction

The Fujifilm company have been very consistent when it comes to the development of their system and one thing is sure: it doesn't lack primes of different types. Lately we've seen many launches of f/2.0 fixed-focal lenses such as the Fujinon XF23mm f/2 RWR, very well put together, the Fujinon XF35mm f/2 RWR, the Fujinon XF50mm f/2 RWR or the Fujinon XF90mm f/2 RLMWR. To be honest I thought such trend would be continued and soon we were going to see such instruments as the 2/16 or the 2/75.

Fujinon managed to surprise me. They launched the Fujinon XF 16 mm f/2.8 R WR model which is their third f/2.8 prime and a macro lens too. The dimensions of the lens were the second surprise. Keeping in mind how small the Samsung NX 2.4/16 was, I was sure that the new Fujinon lens would be a small, shapely pancake. Still Fujifilm have chosen their own way – and I suppose not without reasons. Our task now is to check how the new lens performs in practice and we are going to enjoy that very much.

Courtesy of the Fujifilm Polska company that interesting optical instrument found its way to our editorial office pretty quickly and now we are presenting its full test in the following chapters – enjoy your reading!
