10. Autofocus

When joined with the newer body, the Sony A7R IV, the autofocus of the Sigma 2/24 is noiseless and quite quick. Running through the whole distance range and confirming the focus position takes about 0.5 of a second and it doesn't seem to depend on the direction of the movement.

After attaching the lens to an older body, the Sony A7R III, literally nothing changes – the mechanism once again is silent and quick. No reservations in this area.

The accuracy of the autofocus can be described in similar terms – the mechanism didn't cause us any problems either in the studio or outside.

When it comes to front or back focus tendencies we didn't observe anything wrong in case of ordinary photos. It changed when we tried to take photos applying the most demanding settings, the maximum relative aperture and the minimum focusing distance - then we saw that the depth of field is shifted a bit toward the photographer. However, it still included the proper object so the situation wasn't that bad.
