We had praised the Fujinon XF 23 mm f/1.4 R for its distortion correction so we were curious how its successor would fare in this category. Unfortunately the news isn't exactly good – it seems Fujifilm optics specialists follow a trend which has become very fashionable lately and leave distortion correction to be dealt with by software. Such an approach is really strange – if you can correct distortion quite well in a lens with 11 elements, you could also try to fight it off in a construction with 4 elements more. Pity the constructors failed to do that much.

The results? Only in JPEG files, corrected automatically, distortion is practically invisible as it amounts to +0.23%. In RAW files developped by neutral software barrel deformations are quite conspicuous and their value we determined as -3.49%. It's a lot higher than distortion of the Viltrox, as its result amounted to -1.43%; it's also higher than distortion of the predecessor of the new Fujinon as the older lens could boast of a very good result of -0.75%.
