1. Introduction

The Sony E 10-18 mm f/4 OSS was the first lens designed for mirrorless Sony cameras with the APS-C sensors. Launched as early as September 2012, it was rather untypical for two reasons. Firstly, instruments of this class usually start from 10-12 mm and end at 20-24 mm, offering you at least 2x zoom ratio. Sony decided to offer you a narrower focal range so the zoom ratio was just 1.8x.

Secondly, the lens had build-in image stabilization, a rare feature in this class of parameters. Its presence is a surprise now, when the newest Sony bodies have sensor stabilization as well; still in the past APS-C sensor cameras used to be devoid of such a feature.

Still, that lens was launched almost ten years ago; small wonder Sony decided to release its successor. On 1st June 2022 we saw as many as three new wide angle lenses: two primes, the E 15 mm f/1.4G, the E 11 MM F/1.8, and the aforementioned successor so the Sony PZ E 10-20 mm f/4 G.

The name itself indicates that two untypical feature of its predecessor were removed – the zoom ratio amounts to 2 and there is no optical image stabilization system. What you get instead? The Power Zoom mechanism and a closed construction that doesn't change its dimensions during zooming and/or focusing. Additionally, the new model was moved to the higher G series.
