70-200 mm f/2.8 class lenses often have a lot of problems with the performance against bright light. It stems from the fact that they feature a huge front element that is rarely sheltered by a part of the barrel and also a very complex optical construction. The Tamron is not an exception because its front element is 60 mm in diameter and is positioned very shallowly under the hood and filter thread. What's more, its optical construction features 15 groups of lenses so you deal here with as many as 30 air-to-glass surfaces where you can catch unwanted reflections.
Despite that fact the Tamron managed to perform in this category sensibly well. It didn't avoid some small slip-ups because still it produced some light artifacts. The fact that you can register light arcs even if the sun is positioned relatively far away from the frame is worth mentioning. Fortunately, in all negative cases of catching reflections and flares, you might also add that their number and intensity was not high so, overall, we assess the performance in this category as close to medium.
