Performance against bright light is not a strong point of the tested Nikkor. You can catch flares, there is a distinct contrast loss, and if you put the sun right outside one frame corner your photo will be overexposured and the brighter part will take quite a lot of space.
In this category the Nikkor fares a bit weaker than the Sigma S 500 mm f/5.6 DG DN OS, tested by us not so long ago. It is a bit surprising – after all the Sigma had one group of elements and one element more in its optical system so its task was a bit more difficult.
As the performance of the Sigma could still be put in the medium range, the Nikkor jumped to higher values and should be a bit criticized for that.
