In my tests I often emphasize the fact that inexperienced producers can fail completely when it comes to ensuring good performance against bright light in their lenses. Experience and skills that you learn during years of practice seem to be crucial here. Small wonder that in case of the tested Leica I didn't anticipate any problems as its producers don't lack experience and skills.
Unfortunately, I was wrong. The performance you observe near the maximum relative aperture doesn't provide any reason to worry – there are reflections but they are few and far between, without high intensity. The situation changes distinctly when you stop the aperture down. This time there are much more flares and when you put the sun close to the frame corners they become really nasty, spoiling your shot completely.
As if that wasn't enough, a bright, oval artifact remains stuck in the frame even when you move the sun far away from the corner of your shot.
