1. Introduction

The Chinese Mitakon brand name was launched on the market in 2014 with the Mitakon 50 mm f/0.95 FE, a manual lens designed for full frame mirrorless Sony cameras. Soon enough their line-up was enlarged by other models, like the 0.95/35, the 1.7/24 and the 1.2/42.5, all of them for mirrorless cameras with smaller sensors. It was hardly the end – the company decided to present a full frame 2/35 lens for reflex cameras as well and announced other models which have been launched lately (like the 1.2/85). It is clear the brand name is developing very dynamically and they don’t intend to rest on their laurels.

It is a real joy to see a new player entering the market; the bigger the competition the better for the customers. What’s more it is always a pleasure to test new devices coming from different factories and designed by an independent team of engineers. Such a breath of fresh air is more than recommended for both the tests and the testers; it constitutes such a nice change after running the whole well-known procedure for another ‘kit’ lens starting with 18 mm and ending with something or other.

We would like to thank the FoxFoto company for lending us one specimen of the lens for testing purposes.
