Sony Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar 16-35 mm f/2.8 T* SSM

10. Autofocus

Sony/Zeiss 16-35 mm is the next Zeiss lens equipped with the ultrasonic autofocus motor, marked with the SSM sign. The motor works very well – it is practically noiseless, very quick and accurate. We didn’t notice any frontfocus or backfocus tendencies either on the A100 or on the A900 body. In the case of the A900 the lens missed just in 4% - a small number indeed. On the A100 the Zeiss performance was a bit worse and the number of misses increased to 8%.
