The Sony, in contrast to the Nikon „kits”, didn’t offer any special autofocus motor. The mechanism works loudly and is slow; because of the low fastness of the lens itself it often fails in poor light conditions. In comfortable studio conditions, though, its accuracy would be hard to blame – it missed in only 3% of all shoots.

What’s more, it seems that the tested specimen showed a very slight front-focus tendency. However, because of slow aperture, the depth of field is so huge that this aberration won’t be noticeable at all.
