Most of 50 mm lenses, tested by us, showed a slight barrel distortion on the level from –0.1 to 0.4%. The Sony lagged behind the rest because its distortion level amounted to –0.81%. In the case of the Nikkor the situation is slightly better because here the level of this aberration is -0.70%. It is not much but it means that in some situations you can still notice the distortion in a photo. A simple “prime” of 50 m class should have performed better here; in fact its distortion level should have been zero.
