6. Distortion

While working with the smaller APS-C/DX sensor you don’t have to bother with geometric deformations at all. Across the whole focal range you deal with barrel distortion but its level is slight, almost imperceptible. The results we got at 16, 22 and 28 mm amounted respectively to −1.38%, −0.33% and −0.01%.

There are more issues on full frame but the situation is not bad for a wide angle lens. Of course the worst result you see at the shortest focal length where the distortion reaches −3.94%. In the middle of the range it decreases to a slight level of −1.31%, and by 28 mm it becomes practically imperceptible, reaching only −0.27%.

The result of almost −4% is perhaps not exactly low but if you remember that the Tamron 15–30 mm at the shortest focal length reached a level of −5.81% you might assess it a bit differently. On the other hand the Tamron’s task was definitely more difficult due to its wider focal range.
