6. Distortion

Fuji belongs to those producers which support the distortion correction of their lenses by software of a camera. In a case of a telephoto 100-400 mm device designed for APS-C sensors the optics engineers might have been tempted to try and correct that aberration with the optics. Well, it’s pretty clear they weren’t.

When it comes to JPEG files the distortion is corrected perfectly – the results we got at 100, 200, 300 and 400 mm amount to respectively: +0.01%, −0.01%, 0.00%, +0.04%. As you see you might safely assume at every focal length the distortion is more or less zero.

The situation in RAW files is quite different, though. Here at every focal length you deal with similar and distinct pincushion distortion which is easy to spot. The results we got at 100, 200, 300 and 400 mm are respectively: :+2.09%, +2.29%, +2.24% and +2.21%.
