7. Coma, astigmatism and bokeh

It would be difficult to notice coma in the corners of the APS-C/DX sensor. When you pass to the corners of full frame, however, some deformations of the image of the diode are visible. They are not especially distinct but still. Overall we have no serious reservations concerning the coma correction.

When it comes to the astigmatism, understood as an average difference between vertical and horizontal MTF50 function values the lens performs as it should. The value measured by us amounted to just 2.3% - it means that aberration shouldn’t bother you at all.

Providing out-of-focus areas pleasing to the eye was one of the tasks of this lens and without doubts it performs very well. When you look at the circles, there’s just one objection: the influence of mechanical vignetting (a strong truncation of the circle in the frame corner) and the already mentioned random performance of the 9-blade diaphragm on significant stopping down.

When you employ the second, 14-blade aperture, the problems with roundness disappear. The circles look nice - a slight brightness loss on the edges which is supposed to guarantee pleasant, silky bokeh still remains noticeable.
