8. Vignetting

First, let's check the vignetting performance on the smaller APS-C sensor – appropriate thumbnails you can find below.

Small physical dimensions of this lens mean you can notice vignetting even on the APS-C class sensor. At the maximum relative aperture that aberration reaches 31% (−1.06 EV) and it decreases to 26% (−0.89 EV) on stopping down the aperture to f/2.0. Problems end by f/2.8 and f/4.0, where we got the following results: 13% (−0.41 EV) and 11% (−0.34 EV) respectfully.

Now it's time to examine the situation on full frame – appropriate thumbnails can be found below.

According to our expectations there are a lot of visible issues. Vignetting not only reaches high values but also only moderately well reacts to stopping down. By f/1.8 we got a value of 64% (−2.98 EV), which decreases just slightly to 63% (−2.86 EV) after applying the f/2.0 relative aperture. Brightness loss in frame corners remains significant also by f/2.8 and f/4.0, where we got, respectively, 47% (−1.86 EV) and 43% (−1.63 EV). By f/5.6 this aberration reaches 36% (−1.31 EV), by f/8.0 it amounts to 31% (−1.09 EV), and by f/11.0 it decreases to 30% (−1.02 EV). By f/16.0 the vignetting level remains, within margin of error, the same as by f/11.

Even if in this category the Samyang presents results that can hardly be called good, it still performs better than the more expensive Sony FE 1.8/35.
