6. Distortion

When you deal with small and cheap constructions designed for full frame mirrorless cameras you find out that producers often cut corners and leave distortion correction to software of the camera. An angle of view of almost 64 degrees combined with a focal length of 35 mm, like in the case of the tested lens, tempted to use such a trick too.

Still, it is clear that Samyang optics specialists decided to control distortion even if they didn't manage to reduce it completely. On the APS-C sensor it is slight, amounting to −0.81%, and on passing to full frame it increases to a level of −1.58%, becoming noticeable but not bothersome. It's worth adding that such results could be observed in reflex camera constructions of similar parameters, e.g. the Canon EF 2/35 IS USM or the Nikkor AF-S 1.8/35G ED. Still, you should also notice the fact that the rival Sony 1.8/35 fared much better in this category.

To sum up, we like and appreciate the approach of Samyang. Despite the fact that you deal here with a cheap lens the producers tried their best to correct distortion with optics and partially they even succeeded.
