7. Coma, astigmatism and bokeh

Thumbnails, presented below, show very clearly that the tested lens has no problems whatsoever with coma. Images of a diode in the corners of the APS-C sensor and also in the corners of full frame look almost exactly like the same images in the frame centre. Everything is in perfect order here.

Astimatism, understood as an average difference between vertical and horizontal MTF50 function values, amounted to 17.3%. It's a value on the borderline between medium and high level so it contributes noticeably to the worsening of image quality near the maximum relative aperture.

Defocused circles of light look very well. Light spread inside them is very even, a rim that appears on stopping down not especially intensive. Too pronounced influence of mechanical vignetting is the only thing that I don't like here. In a telephoto lens of such physical dimensions mechanical vignetting might be noticed only at the maximum relative aperture and perhaps also on stopping down the aperture by 1 EV stop. In the case of the Sony you can see a slight truncation of the circle even after you stop down the aperture by 2 EV.
