The reflex camera version of the Sigma 1.4/20 had a lot of problems in this category and the new model fares significantly better. There are less flares to be caught and their intensity is lower – all very nice and praiseworthy.
Still, if you want to be honest there are several things you can have reservations about and should have been corrected better. We mean here especially the fact that flares can be registered even when the sun is situated far away from the frame.
In order not to end the chapter on a pessimistic note you should realize how difficut the task really is. You get a great aperture fastness, a huge angle of view, and a very complex optical system. After all this Sigma version consists of as many as 15 groups of elements, so 30 air-to-glass surfaces. Its predecessor that fared in this category even weaker had eight air-to-glass surfaces less.
