The optical construction of the Tamron 90 mm f/2.8 Di III Macro VXD features as many as four elements made of low dispersion glass so we didn't expect any problems with correction of longitudinal chromatic aberration. The crops, showed below, prove that indeed, there are no such problems.![]() |

Overall there are no more serious problems here because the results fit low and very low levels. Still the performance is quite interesting: the maximum results are near f/5.6. It seem the increase of chromatic aberration from f/2.8 to f/5.6 can be one of factors that curb a faster increase of resolution on the edge of the frame on stopping down.
What about a duel between the Tamron and its rivals? When it comes to the Sony the Tamron doesn't have to be ashamed at all – near the maximum relative aperture the Sony's result approaches 0.1%. The Sigma manages to bridge both sides as in this category, no matter what aperture value you take into account, it keeps an excellent level near 0.02%.

Spherical aberration
First photos from this chapter don't show any focus shift effect. What's more, defocused circles of light we got before and after the focus look quite similar. Both these facts allow us to state that the tested Tamron lens doesn't have any serious problems with correction of spherical aberration.
