Chromatic aberration

Two chapters ago we mentioned the fact that the tested Nikkor is simply larded with special optical elements. Small wonder – the 1.8/135 parameters are very demandin when it comes to the correction of longitudinal chromatic aberration.

The photos below show clearly that Nikon optics specialists did an excellent job because the Nikkor Z 135 mm f/1.8 S Plena doesn't have any problems with this aberration. Even at the maximum relative aperture you can't notice the slightest colouring of images situated outside the focus – a round of applause!

It's clear that all results, no matter what aperture and sensor you apply, keep within a range from 0.01 to 0.02%. These are negligible levels and once again the tested lens should be only praised.

It's true that in this category the rivals also fared very well but officially the results of the Nikkor are the lowest.

Spherical aberration

First photos of this chapter don't show even the slightest focus shift effect. What's more, defocused circles of light reached before and behind the focal point are practically identical. Both these facts along with an excellent image sharpness up from f/1.8 allow us to say that the tested Nikkor doesn't have practically any problems with the correction of spherical aberration.

It's an interesting approach because in fast lenses the producers often decide to leave a certain level of spherical aberration in order to guarantee a better appearance of out-of-focus images. The following chapters will prove that the Nikkor Z 135 mm /1.8 S not only corrects spherical aberration well but also provides pleasing-to-the-eye, soft bokeh without any compromises.
