8. Vignetting

First let's check the vignetting levels on the smaller APS-C/DX sensor – appropriate thumbnails you can find below.

Even at the maximum relative aperture vignetting is not especially bothersome, reaching a slight value of 24% (-0.79 EV). Reducing the aperture to f/2.0 doesn't provide any more distinct effect, with vignetting decreasing very slightly, this time to 23% (-0.76 EV). By f/2.8 for a change all problems end with a level of just 8% (-0.23 EV).

After passing to a bigger full frame sensor there are far more problems and photos below illustrate them pretty well.

At the maximum relative aperture we got a pretty high result, reaching 51% (−2.09 EV), higher than in case of most of the rivals. The Nikkor showed here 43%, the Panasonic 45% and the Viltrox 48%. Only the Sony dealt a tad weaker, as in its case the brightness loss in frame corners reached as much as 58%.

By f/2.0 this aberration gets to 49% (-1.95 EV), by f/2.8 it drops to 30% (-1.02 EV), and by f/4.0 it amounts to19% (-0.60 EV). Problems in this category end almost completely by f/5.6 and f/8.0 where we see, respectively, 13% (-0.41 EV) and 12% (-0.37 EV). Further stopping down of the aperture doesn't provide any measurable effects.

Taking into account really small dimensions of the tested Samyang I have to admit I expected a weaker performance.
