10. Autofocus

Tokina has not yet come up with an ultrasonic motor. No wonder the autofocus emits a characteristic, high-tone buzzing. The motor is not fast either. Running across the whole range takes as much as 2 seconds. It is worth pointing out that Tokina offers a focus limiter. We can choose between FULL (a focusing range between 0,14 meter and infinity) and LIMIT (0,17 m to infinity) settings. In the second mode, autofocus works almost twice faster.

When it comes to accuracy, we have no serious reservations. The amount of misses in studio reached 8%. It was noticeable, however that the lens tends to correct its first ‘shot’ with a gentle leap to a different, better position.

The lens has shown no tendency to focus behind or in front of the subject.
