Nikon Nikkor AF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6D ED

3. Build quality

In this price range we would not have expected much, but the Nikkor actually surprised us. Although most of the body is plastic, the bayonet, for instance, is metal, which is different from other cheap AF-S class lenses.

The picture below shows a size comparison between the Nikkor 18-70 mm (left), the AF-S 55-200 mm (middle) and the tested 70-300 mm telephoto lens (right).

As far as internal configuration is concerned, Nikon cares for its clients even in the case of its cheapest equipment. The lens consists of 13 lenses set up in 9 groups; two of them are made of low dispersion ED glass, which is supposed to ensure perfect chromatic aberration and spherical correction.
