6. Distortion

As you see in this chart, published below, in the new model Sigma focused on minimizing barrel distortion at the widest angle of view. Indeed they succeeded – the result is much better than that of the rival lenses. It is worth noticing, though, that they had to sacrifice the performance at bigger focal lengths– there the new Sigma performs the worst in this category. The level of pincushion distortion near 50 mm is especially painful – it reaches almost 2.5%.

Out of chronicler’s duty we can also give the distortion values at those focal lengths which weren’t included in the chart below. At 30 mm we get pincushion of 1.07%, at 85mm the distortions are also of pincushion kind, reaching 2.23% and at 140 mm they decrease to a value of 1.95%.
