A huge front element and a complex optical construction make the performance against bright light rather tricky for the Nikkor 18-140 mm VR and indeed, the lens didn’t avoid some slip-ups as you can see very well in photos below. A streak of light, running diagonally across the frame, is something quite characteristic as you can catch it for many combinations of aperture and focal length.

It would be difficult to complain a lot : after all the flares aren’t especially intensive and they appear only when you put the sun inside the frame or close to its corner. The overall assessment in this category remains average.
