1. Introduction

You can say the Tokina 70–200 mm f/4.0 was launched by installments. The first info about that Japanese company working on such a lens appeared at the beginning of 2012; its prototype was shown on CP+ fairs in February the same year.

Still you had to wait till the next CP+ fair for the full specification of the lens and its official launch – it took place on 29 January 2013.

The launch was one thing; finding the lens on shop shelves was quite another. Only in May 2014 the Polish Tokina distributor – the Next77 company- informed us that it would be available for 2014 summer holidays and indeed the first specimens hit the shelves in our country at the end of July and the beginning of August.

Our holiday trips prevented us from testing the Tokina 70-200 mm as fast as we would like to but now the holiday season is over and we have no more excuses; the results of our test are presented in the following chapters.

We would like to thank Next77, the sole distributor of the Tokina brand name products in Poland, for lending us the lens for testing purposes.

You are also invited to get acquainted with our test procedure, described in the article "How do we test lenses?" If you feel it’s still not enough, please go to our FAQ section where you can find some further explanation.
