Carl Zeiss Otus 28 mm f/1.4

9. Ghosting and flares

In this category the performance of the Zeiss is a perfect example that you can tackle even most difficult tasks if you want to do it and you have the right opportunity. The bar was set very high indeed because the Otus 1.4/28 is a lens optically complex; the light can be reflected from as many as 26 air-to-glass surfaces. The wide angle of view of the lens doesn’t make it easier; add to that the huge front element, practically not sheltered by the edge of the casing, and you have almost a recipe for a disaster.

Against the odds, the Otus managed to perform very well. Perhaps the result aren’t perfect; some light artifacts still can be noticed on a more distinct stopping down but they occupy a small area and are not especially intense. The overall contrast of photos should be praised as well.
