1. Introduction

Lately we have seen a lot of launches of relatively fast fixed-focal lenses with angles of view amounting to 100 degrees or more which are usually called ultra wide-angle. It concerns both full frame (e.g. the Sigma A 1.8/14, the Samyang 2.4/14 Premium, the Irix 2.4/15, the Venus Laowa 2/15), APS-C/DX sensors (e.g. the Samyang 2/12) but also the Micro 4/3 system. In the case of the latter Olympus offered us a fast fish eye device (1.8/8) and Venus Optics showed the Venus Optics LAOWA 7.5 mm f/2 MFT, a rectilinear lens with a field of view of 110 degrees, at least according to the producer.

Very small physical dimensions of this instrument and its low weight make it a perfect companion for any trips imaginable, especially as it is combined with good parameters and a possibility of applying classic, small diameter filters. We were very interested in testing that model and very happy when such an opportunity arose. We would like to thank FoxFoto, the Polish distributor of Venus Optics Laowa, for providing one specimen of that lens very quickly.

You are also invited to get acquainted with our test procedure, described in the article "How do we test lenses?" If you feel it’s still not enough, please go to our FAQ section where you can find some further explanation.
