11. Summary

Pros:

  • Small, solid, metal casing,
  • Sensational image quality in the frame centre,
  • Negligible longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • Slight lateral chromatic aberration,
  • Lack of problems with spherical aberration,
  • Moderate astigmatism.

Cons:

  • Weak image quality on the edge of the frame by f/2.0 - 4.0 apertures,
  • Huge vignetting, Noticeable coma,
  • Too weak performance against bright light.
The Venus Optics LAOWA 7.5 mm f/2 MFT is hardly a flawless lens. Should it worry you? Not really. After all these flaws were completely expected. If a lens with an angle of view of 110 degrees and the f/2.0 aperture is small enough to fit your trousers pocket it most likely won’t provide excellent image quality on the edge of the frame and/or moderate vignetting. Far more important is the fact that such a construction is very efficient in the frame centre and in that area the tested lens manages very well indeed.

Without doubt the Venus Optics LAOWA 7.5 mm f/2 MFT is a very well-done lens which fits the Micro 4/3 format cameras perfectly; small, shapely and handy, it will be a perfect travelling companion. The possibility of using classic filters with a small diameter might be its additional advantage.
