1. Introduction

Near the end of October 2019 Tamron presented three lenses designed for full frame mirrorless Sony FE cameras. These were fixed focal length models with a not especially impressive f/2.8 aperture and the following focal lengths: 20, 24, and 35 mm.

That lauch wouldn't make me particularly curious because with such parameters I usually expect small, shapely, handy instruments and the new Tamrons could be hardly described as one of them. Still, Tamron also added a substitute of macro mode and a 1:2 reproduction ratio. As a result, minimum focusing distance of the 20 mm model amounts to 11 cm, that of the 24 mm model is 12 cm and the 35 mm lens is able to focus from 15 cm.

There are also other reasons, supporting the existence of 2.8/20 and 2.8/24 instruments. So far the line-up of FE mount Tamron lenses hasn't featured a standard journalistic 24–70 mm f/2.8 zoom, only the 28-75 mm model. The 20 and 24 mm primes seem to be a natural, wide angle complementation of that zoom 28-75 mm device. We started the testing procedure with the Tamron 20 mm f/2.8 Di III OSD M 1:2, in our opinion the most interesting of the three new lenses.
