10. Autofocus

The autofocus of the tested lens, when joined with the Nikon Z7, is quiet but not completely noiseless. Fortunately you can hear just a slight whirr of the mechanism so it can hardly be called a flaw.

When it comes to the speed, it is moderate – running through the whole distance range and confirming the focus typically takes about 0.7 of a second. That value weakly depends on the direction of work and/or lighting conditions. The autofocus mechanism also had other problems. Sometimes, when we passed from the minimum focusing distance to an object situated far away, we experienced focus hunting near the proper position. The oscillations lasted about 0.2-0.4 of a second and then the proper focus was set.

When the tested lens didn't have such problems it was very accurate, no matter whether we tested it in studio or outside.

We also didn't experience any problems with front or back focus tendencies and the lens didn't need any AF microcalibration from the camera menu level.
