1. Introduction

On 29 June 2021 Nikon presented a new mirrorless APS-C camera, the Nikon Zfc, which style was similar to the Nikon FM2 reflex camera from 1982. With the new camera a silver version of the 16-50 mm f/3.5-6.3 VR kit lens was launched, along with a completely new but stylized Nikkor Z 28 mm f/2.8 SE. What's interesting, the second lens was a full frame model and in the case of the Zfc, it was supposed to perform as a bit wider standard (equivalent of 42 mm focal length).

In November 2021 we saw the Nikkor Z 28 mm f/2.8 which, optically, is like the SE version but its casing is different, evidently constructed with contemporary system Z devices in mind. The lens is designed for Z5, Z6, Z7, and Z9 cameras that feature contemporary casings.

We got one specimen of the SE version when we ordered the Nikon Zfc sent for testing and we didn't miss the occasion to test the lens as well. The results can be found in the following chapters – enjoy your lecture!

As usual, we would like to thank Nikon for lending us one specimen of the lens so we could test it properly.
