6. Distortion

When I noticed that, after attaching the lens to the camera, the option of switching off distortion correction in the menu was deactivated, I admit I expected the worst.

JPEG files corrected that way didn't give any reasons to worry and it was quite understandable. In case of the smaller APS-C/DX sensor deformations reached a negligible level of +0.18% and increased slightly to a value of +0.27% after passing to full frame. Still these deformations were of pincushion, not barrel variety and it was interesting.

Fully-fledged barrel distortion appeared after developping RAW files with independent software. Still, its level surprised us nicely. Judging by forced distortion correction in the camera menu we expected really huge levels of that aberration and here we got just -1.25% for the smaller sensor and -2.55% for full frame.

It means deformations of this type will be noticeable in real life photos but they won't be terribly bothersome.
